POLICE ONCE AGAIN DEFUSE IED NEAR IDP CAMP IN BORNO

The Borno State Police Command has retrieved and neutralized an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) positioned adjacent to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mallam Fatori, the administrative center of Abadam Local Government Area.

According to the command, the device, described as “victim-operated”, was discovered and neutralised in the border community, which is about 272 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

The operation occurred fewer than 24 hours after law enforcement neutralized a comparable explosive device placed in agricultural land within the Dikwa Local Government Area.

The announcement, endorsed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, partially states, “On the 18th of August, 2025, at approximately 1630 hours, information was relayed to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mallam Fatori, concerning a suspected explosive device in the vicinity.

“Promptly acting on the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, swiftly ordered the assignment of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Team affiliated with Base 13 in Maiduguri.

“In accordance with established EOD safety protocols, the team secured the area, executed a comprehensive clearance operation, and successfully located the concealed IED.

“The device was meticulously transported to a secure site where it was professionally deactivated without any injuries or damage to property.

“Community members were educated about the situation while surveillance of the area is ongoing to ensure sustained safety for residents and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

“The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, reaffirms its steadfast dedication to protecting lives and property throughout the state. ”

“Members of the public are strongly advised to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious objects or persons to the nearest police station.”
