President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday officially swore in Mr. Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs during a brief ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by family members of the newly appointed ministers, senior government officials and top aides of the President.

The appointments followed the resignation of the former Minister of Power and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of future electoral activities. The Senate had confirmed the nominees on May 6, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the President’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, Tegbe brings more than three decades of experience spanning public and private sector reforms.

A native of Ibadan, Oyo State, Tegbe is described as a fiscal, economic and institutional reform expert with extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and policy implementation.

He holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, alongside Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration from institutions in Switzerland and Birmingham respectively.

Before his appointment, Tegbe served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led several transformational projects and supported the design and implementation of major government reforms.

His professional engagements also include advisory and reform work with organisations such as the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Nigeria Revenue Service, Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN and Odu’a Group.

Also inaugurated was Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, who assumes office as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Enikanolaiye, from Igbagun in Kogi State, earned a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he emerged as the best graduating student in his faculty and won the Dean’s Prize.

He later obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy with distinction from the University of Lagos.

A career diplomat, Enikanolaiye joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary in 2016 before retiring in 2017 after 35 years of service.

During his diplomatic career, he served in Nigeria’s foreign missions in Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada and the United Kingdom, with his final foreign posting as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi, India.

Prior to his ministerial appointment, he served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff.

The Presidency said both appointments align with ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across key sectors of the administration.
