ARMY CHIEF ORDERS IMMEDIATE SEARCH FOR KEBBI ABDUCTED SCHOOLGIRLS

The Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to step up efforts in the search-and-rescue mission for the students abducted in Kebbi State.
the media had earlier reported that bandits attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga on Monday, killing the vice principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducting 25 students.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama said the army chief arrived in Kebbi on Monday with a team of principal staff officers from Army Headquarters.
During the visit, Shaibu held an operational meeting with frontline commanders and urged soldiers to maintain round-the-clock operations until all the schoolgirls are located and safely returned.
Shaibu emphasized to the soldiers that steadfast determination is essential for the success of the operation.
He said, “You must continue the fight day and night. We must rescue these children.
“For the commanders present, make full use of intelligence to carry out intelligence-driven operations. Bandits typically target soft targets. If they are aware of your presence in an area, they will either avoid it or confront you—and when they do, you have the capability to defeat them, don’t you?”
You must be fully committed to ensuring success. Whenever you receive intelligence of this nature, you must act professionally and decisively. This is not just about our reputation; it is about performing our duties effectively.”
Shaibu also held a separate meeting with local vigilantes and hunters collaborating with security forces, stressing the need for closer cooperation due to their deep knowledge of the terrain.
“If we have people like you, it is you who will work with us and provide vital local intelligence. You know these forests and can guide us to the criminals’ locations.
“Your hunters should thoroughly search every nook and cranny of these forests, with soldiers supporting you. We are counting on your partnership to restore lasting peace.
“These criminals aim to frighten children away from schools, but let it be clear: we will not allow that,” he added.
Shaibu commended the vigilantes for their bravery and assured them of the military’s continued support.
Earlier, the COAS also paid a condolence visit to the traditional ruler of Danko, Abubakar Allaje, and to the principal of the attacked school, Rabi Magaji.
The army chief reiterated the military’s dedication to securing the safe release of the abducted students.
“We are fully committed and will not relent. The safety of these children is a national priority, and we are deploying all available resources to ensure they are safely returned home,” he stated.
