The Borno State Government has temporarily shut down and relocated Government Day Secondary School, Mussa following the abduction of 42 students by suspected insurgents.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s spokesperson, Dauda Illiya, said the decision was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, during a visit to the affected community on Monday.
The visit was part of the state government’s response to the incident and followed an earlier condolence and solidarity visit by Governor Zulum on May 19, during which he assured residents of efforts to secure the release of the abducted students.

During the visit, the delegation paid homage to the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali Ibn Ismaila Mamza II, before proceeding to Mussa, where they were received by the Commanding Officer of the 115 Battalion, Askira, Lt. Col. Ishola Olufisola, alongside community leaders and parents.
Addressing the parents, Wakilbe conveyed the government’s sympathy and assured them that intensified efforts were underway to rescue the abducted students.
As part of emergency safety measures under the Safe Schools Initiative, the school has been relocated to Government Secondary School, Uba to allow students continue learning in a safer environment.
The delegation also inspected schools in Dille and Lassa communities to reassess security conditions and directed full implementation of all Safe Schools Initiative measures in affected schools.
The abduction occurred on May 16 when suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked schools in Mussa, abducting 42 children, according to Muhammadu Ali Ndume.
