The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a housewife, Mrs. Misturah Bada ‘f’, aged 26, alongside her accomplice, Adedamola Daniel ‘m’, aged 30, for faking her kidnapping and extorting ₦2.5 million from her husband residing in South Africa.

A statement issued on Saturday, signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command said the incident began on November 24, 2025, when it received a distress call from Mr. Bada, reporting that his wife had allegedly been kidnapped.

The statement said the kidnappers “demanded a ransom of ₦10 million, later reduced to ₦3 million,” and a sum of ₦2.5 million was subsequently paid, yet the supposed kidnappers refused to release her.

Upon receiving the complaint, human and technical assets of the Command Special Squad were deployed.

Mrs. Bada was released and reunited with her family. During debriefing, she claimed she was kidnapped by six armed men in a silver Toyota Venza and dispossessed of her iPhone 12 Pro Max.

She further stated that the ransom “was first paid into her bank account before being handed over to the kidnappers.”

Further investigations uncovered inconsistencies in her story. On December 3, 2025, operatives arrested Adedamola Daniel in Ede, Osun State, recovering a SIM card used to register the WhatsApp account through which the ransom negotiations were conducted.

Daniel confessed that Mrs. Bada had requested the use of his SIM card to operate the account.

Confronted with the evidence, Mrs. Bada admitted to faking her kidnapping to extort money from her husband.

The previously “stolen” iPhone 12 Pro Max was recovered from Yusuf Sodiq, who admitted purchasing it from her for ₦380,000.

The Lagos State Police said the investigation is ongoing and that Mrs. Bada and her accomplices “will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.”

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and properties and warned the public against false reporting, criminal deception, and acts that divert security resources.

The statement added, “Members of the public are encouraged to continue their lawful activities and promptly report any suspicious acts or movements to the Police through the Command’s emergency number.”
