MANCHESTER UNITED SECURE LAND FOR NEW 100,000-SEATER STADIUM PROJECT

Agency Report
Manchester United have announced they have secured the majority of land required for their proposed new 100,000-capacity stadium, marking a major step forward in their long-term redevelopment plans.
The club confirmed on Monday that it has acquired a 25-acre (10-hectare) site located close to its historic Old Trafford ground, paving the way for what is expected to become Britain’s largest sporting arena.
The triangular-shaped plot, situated about 350 metres north-west of Old Trafford, removes a key logistical obstacle in the project, including the need to acquire adjacent land owned by Freightliner, which had previously complicated development plans.
According to the club, the land acquisition represents a significant milestone in the planning of the new stadium, which forms part of a wider regeneration vision for the Old Trafford area.
Collette Roche, chief executive overseeing the stadium development, described the development as a crucial breakthrough in the project.
“Today’s news highlights the progress we’re making towards a world-class new home for Manchester United and represents a significant milestone as we move into the next phase of development,” she said.
She added that building close to Old Trafford would help preserve the club’s heritage while enabling a modern facility for the future.
The proposed stadium is central to a wider £2 billion redevelopment plan first unveiled in 2025, which also includes the construction of 15,000 homes and the creation of tens of thousands of jobs.
Club co-owner Jim Ratcliffe had previously described rebuilding Old Trafford as a “no-brainer” following his investment in the club.
Old Trafford has served as Manchester United’s home for 115 years, but the 74,000-capacity stadium has faced increasing concerns over ageing infrastructure in recent years.
