The South-West Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Adegoke Fayoade, has assured that abducted schoolchildren and their teachers will be safely rescued, saying coordinated security efforts are ongoing across relevant agencies.

Fayoade gave the assurance on Monday during an official working visit to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos State.

He said multiple security formations were working jointly to ensure the swift and safe return of the victims, adding that the operation was being handled with urgency and coordination.

“All agencies, including government, are working very hard, and I can assure you that within the shortest possible time, those children and their teachers will be free,” he said.

Responding to questions on alleged ransom demands by the abductors, the DIG said the police do not engage in ransom discussions, stressing that operational focus remained strictly on rescuing the victims alive.

“We don’t know anything about ransom because we don’t talk about ransom. All efforts are directed towards getting the abductees freed safely,” he added.

Fayoade explained that his visit to Lagos was part of efforts to strengthen supervision, review operational strategies and engage officers on improving responses to evolving security challenges.

He said findings from his engagements would be forwarded to the Inspector-General of Police for further action and policy direction.

The DIG noted that manpower shortages, welfare concerns and logistics challenges were among issues raised during the visit, adding that recruitment efforts were ongoing to strengthen police capacity nationwide.

He also highlighted the Nigeria Police Force’s increasing adoption of technology, including centralised data systems and artificial intelligence tools, to enhance intelligence gathering and investigations.

Fayoade commended officers of the Nigeria Police Force for their service and urged them to remain professional, committed and respectful of human rights in the discharge of their duties.

He further called for stronger collaboration between security agencies and the public, noting that effective policing requires broad stakeholder support beyond government institutions.
