Motorists and commuters along the busy Iwo Road interchange in Ibadan were stranded on Monday as protesters blocked major sections of the road, triggering heavy traffic congestion and disrupting movement across the area.
The demonstration, which began around 10 a.m., was organised by Take It Back Movement as part of renewed calls for the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Orire Local Government Area.
Speaking during the protest, the movement’s National Coordinator, Juwon Sanyaolu, said the action formed part of sustained advocacy efforts aimed at securing the freedom of the victims.
According to him, the protest followed the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State in May and would continue until all those in captivity regained their freedom.
“We will continue to protest for the release of all abducted victims until they are free. We believe government officials remain in the comfort of their offices while innocent students and teachers remain in captivity,” he said.
Sanyaolu also broadened the demand beyond Oyo State, calling for intensified efforts to tackle insecurity nationwide and secure the release of abducted persons across all regions of the country.
He criticised political leaders for focusing attention on preparations for the 2027 elections while insecurity continues to affect communities.

“We will not wait until 2027. By then, we may not know how many lives would have been affected. The state and federal governments must act or continue to face mass action,” he added.
The protest caused a major traffic build-up around the Iwo Road axis, one of the busiest transport corridors in Oyo State, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes while many commuters abandoned vehicles and continued their journeys on foot.
