SANWO-OLU LAUNCHES PBAT FEEDS PROGRAMME, CALLS FOR PRIVATE SECTOR SUPPORT FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the pilot phase of the Adopt-A-School PBAT Feeds Programme, tagged “Snacks for Thought,” urging corporate organisations and individuals to partner with public primary schools across the state.
The programme was launched at the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area as part of efforts to improve child nutrition, boost learning outcomes and strengthen human capital development.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the governor described the initiative as a transformative collaboration involving the Federal Government, Lagos State Government and the private sector under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the initiative goes beyond providing meals for pupils, noting that it is founded on the belief that no child should be deprived of education because of hunger. He said the programme reflects a collective commitment to investing in the future of Nigerian children.
The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for championing policies focused on education, nutrition and human capital development, while also acknowledging the advocacy efforts of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for children, women and vulnerable groups.
According to him, access to nutritious meals can improve school attendance, classroom participation and overall academic performance. He added that the initiative would also support economic growth by creating opportunities for farmers, food processors, caterers and other local businesses involved in food supply chains.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated that education and human capital development remain key pillars of the state’s THEMES+ Agenda, highlighting ongoing investments in school infrastructure, teacher training, digital learning tools and school health programmes.
He called on businesses, financial institutions, charitable organisations, faith-based groups, alumni associations and philanthropists to embrace the Adopt-A-School initiative, describing it as an investment in the future workforce and prosperity of Lagos State and Nigeria.
The governor also unveiled the Adopt-A-School Dashboard, a digital platform designed to promote transparency and accountability by enabling sponsors to identify schools, monitor projects and assess the impact of their interventions in real time.
He assured prospective partners of the government’s commitment to ensuring that every genuine collaboration delivers measurable benefits to schoolchildren, while directing relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to support the programme’s implementation.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged pupils to remain focused on their education, reminding them that their future potential is not limited by their present circumstances.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of a Community Impact Award to the governor in recognition of his support for the Adopt-A-School Programme and the PBAT Feeds initiative.
The ceremony also featured a live demonstration of the School Adoption Platform, showcasing how individuals, organisations and development partners can adopt schools, track projects and monitor outcomes through a technology-driven framework.
Organisers described the launch as a nationwide call for collective action to ensure that children in public schools have access to adequate nutrition and quality education.
