Former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), Elohor Aiboni, has been appointed Executive Vice President and Country Chair for Nigeria, becoming the first Nigerian to occupy the combined position. She succeeds Marno de Jong, who is leaving Shell after a distinguished 34-year career with the company to pursue new opportunities.
Marno, who was appointed Senior Vice President for Nigeria in 2020 before assuming additional responsibilities as Executive Vice President and Country Chair, oversaw all of Shell’s operations in the country. During his tenure, the company’s flagship Bonga asset recorded strong operational performance and advanced key investment projects, including the HI offshore gas project and the Bonga North development.
Having joined Shell in 1992 as a Project Engineer, Marno built an extensive international career spanning project delivery, engineering, commercial operations, and upstream development across several countries, including the United Kingdom, Venezuela, Australia, the United States, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Nigeria.
Reflecting on his time in Nigeria, Marno expressed gratitude for the support he received from colleagues and partners, noting that it enabled significant progress across the company’s operations. He also voiced confidence in Elohor’s ability to lead Shell Nigeria to greater success.
Elohor brings more than 24 years of experience within Shell, having worked across the company’s offshore, shallow-water, and onshore businesses, as well as in international assignments in Kazakhstan and Brunei. She made history in 2021 as the first woman to serve as Managing Director of SNEPCo, where she led Nigeria’s deepwater operations and investments. Under her leadership, the Bonga field achieved the milestone of producing its one-billionth barrel of oil in 2023.
In 2024, she moved to Brunei as Asset Director, overseeing production, asset performance, and project delivery. Her appointment as Executive Vice President and Country Chair for Nigeria will take effect on August 1, 2026.
Speaking on her new role, Elohor said she was honoured by the opportunity to continue supporting Shell’s business growth in Nigeria, while building on the achievements recorded under Marno’s leadership. She pledged to work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to sustain operational excellence and drive future growth for the company.
