The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has officially launched the newly built Eko Strike Force Team Headquarters in Somolu, a major step toward strengthening security operations and enhancing rapid response policing across Lagos State.
The commissioning ceremony attracted senior police officers, community leaders, government officials, and other security stakeholders who gathered to witness the unveiling of the operational base designed to improve intelligence-driven policing and reinforce the security architecture within Lagos.
Speaking during the event, CP Jimoh expressed deep appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, for approving and facilitating the establishment of the Eko Strike Force Team. According to him, the initiative demonstrates the leadership and commitment of the Nigeria Police Force toward strengthening operational capacity and tackling crime effectively in the state.
The police commissioner also extended his gratitude to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for supporting the team through the donation of operational vehicles, noting that the gesture has significantly enhanced the mobility and readiness of the strike force personnel.
CP Olohundare Jimoh further commended the Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Abdul-Lateef Ashimi, for providing the impressive edifice that now serves as the headquarters of the Eko Strike Force Team. He described the facility as a strategic operational base that will greatly improve coordination, planning, and deployment of the team across critical areas within the state.
Explaining the operational structure of the unit, the commissioner stated that the Eko Strike Force Team was established as a specialized tactical formation built on both overt and covert policing strategies. He noted that the squad will conduct continuous patrols and intelligence-led operations across Lagos State in order to strengthen public confidence and assure residents that the state remains secure.

According to CP Jimoh, the team has been mandated to patrol key locations and respond swiftly to criminal threats and other security challenges, thereby reinforcing the protection of lives and property. He emphasized that the strike force will serve as a rapid intervention unit capable of addressing emerging security threats, violent crimes, and other disturbances in real time.
“The Eko Strike Force Team is designed to operate through both overt and covert tactical operations across the state. Their presence will help restore confidence in the people and assure residents that Lagos remains safe while ensuring the protection of lives and property,” the commissioner stated.
CP Jimoh also reassured residents that Lagos State remains safe, stating clearly that there are currently no cases of kidnapping in the state. He explained that the command has intensified surveillance and operational presence across strategic corridors, including Agbowa to Epe, Ikorodu to Ikosi, as well as several riverine communities.

According to the Commissioner, the police have carried out rapid deployments to these locations in order to maintain peace, prevent criminal activities, and ensure the continued safety and security of residents throughout Lagos State.
He further revealed that the Force Headquarters had issued nine gunboats to strengthen security operations within the waterways, noting that the gunboats have already been strategically deployed across the riverine areas of Lagos State to enhance maritime security and curb criminal activities along the waterways.
In addition, CP Jimoh disclosed that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has launched constant area patrol surveillance using police air support, further boosting the state’s security monitoring capabilities. The air surveillance initiative, according to him, complements ground patrols and tactical deployments, allowing the police to monitor large areas more effectively and respond promptly to any emerging threats.
The launch of the Eko Strike Force Team Headquarters underscores the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to modern policing strategies, proactive crime prevention, and stronger collaboration between government institutions, security agencies, and local communities.

He added that the new headquarters in Somolu will serve as a central operational hub for planning, coordination, intelligence gathering, and rapid deployment of personnel to strategic locations within the Lagos metropolis.
