Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a Brazil-based businessman, Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu, for allegedly trafficking 6.10 kilograms of liquid cocaine concealed in shirts and towels imported into Nigeria from Brazil.

The suspect, aged 41, was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, shortly after arriving from São Paulo via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on an Ethiopian Airlines flight on June 11.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, a detailed search of the suspect’s luggage led to the discovery of 14 shirts and towels soaked in liquid cocaine, which had been dried and carefully ironed to evade detection.

Babafemi said the suspect had lived in Brazil for over 14 years, where he reportedly runs an African restaurant. He also claimed he travelled to Nigeria to visit his wife and purchase food items in bulk for his business.
