Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume, on Friday, urged President Bola Tinubu to implement prioritized projects in the North-East within the 2025 supplementary budget.
In a statement disseminated to journalists in Abuja, Ndume encouraged Tinubu to allocate dedicated resources for the region in the upcoming 2025 supplementary budget as well as in the 2026 budget proposal.
Emphasizing the significance of this initiative, the senator representing Borno South cautioned that the area risks being overlooked if its urgent infrastructural requirements are not promptly addressed.

“Fifteen years have passed without any substantial infrastructural advancement in the North-East, which has been severely impacted by insurgents.
“In light of this, I recommend that the current administration prioritize the region and allocate resources for its critical infrastructural demands in the 2025 supplementary budget.
“Now that the insurgent threat has diminished due to the efforts of our military, who have recaptured lost territories, contractors can now commence work at various sites,” he stated.
His request followed a visit on Wednesday by the six governors of the North-East to Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The governors, led by Borno State Governor and Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, Prof. Babagana Zulum, presented a comprehensive list of neglected federal road projects in the region.
During the meeting, Zulum emphasized at least 17 significant road networks that have endured decades of abandonment.
These included the Kano-Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt-Jos-Bauchi-Maiduguri Railway line, Bama-Mubi-Yola Road, Wukari-Jalingo-Yola Road, Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Damaturu Road, and the Maiduguri-Monguno-Baga Road.
Additional routes included the Damaturu-Geidam Road, Bauchi-Ningi-Nasaru-Babaldo Road, Gombe-Potiskum Road, Damaturu-Biu Road, Ibi-Shamdam Road, and the Maiduguri-Ngala-Bama-Banki corridor.
Ndume, while appreciating the governors for their assertive position, expressed concern that fundamental infrastructure across the six states of the North-East has been in a state of near-collapse for over 15 years, primarily due to the Boko Haram insurgency and associated security challenges.
According to him, the North-East, which has been the epicenter of insurgency for more than a decade, warrants particular attention from the Federal Government.
The senator further advised the governors of the region to maintain their advocacy towards the Federal Government and continue developing people-centric policies that would enhance the quality of life for citizens.
