Colombian pop icon Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy are set to perform the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City.
The duo will take the stage at the historic Estadio Azteca on June 11, ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, to perform Dai Dai, the tournament’s official anthem.
According to BBC Sport, FIFA described the song as “a celebration of football’s power to bring people together across cultures and continents.” The title, an Italian expression meaning “come on” or “let’s go,” is expected to be a major highlight of the opening ceremony.
Joining them on stage will be Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and South African singer-songwriter Tyla, who will also perform during the event that launches the month-long tournament.

FIFA said the anthem was designed to reflect the excitement, passion, and global spirit of the World Cup, adding that Shakira and Burna Boy represent two of the most influential voices in contemporary music.
The Mexico City ceremony is one of three planned across the host nations. In Canada, Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette will headline festivities before Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12.
Meanwhile, American pop star Katy Perry and rapper Future are scheduled to perform ahead of the United States’ clash with Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Shakira’s appearance marks another chapter in her long-standing connection with football’s biggest tournament, following the global success of World Cup hits such as Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) and La La La.
She is also expected to perform at the World Cup final on July 19, where she will co-headline the competition’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show alongside Madonna and K-pop group BTS.
