A legal practitioner and human rights advocate, Barrister Danladi Azizi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to explain the circumstances surrounding the return of Silas Agara as Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) after he resigned to pursue a senatorial bid in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Azizi argued that Agara’s return to office raises constitutional, administrative, and ethical concerns that require public clarification.

He questioned the legal authority under which Agara resumed his position, noting that there had been no official announcement from the Presidency confirming his reappointment.

According to Azizi, Agara had complied with President Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees seeking elective positions to resign from office. However, after failing to secure the APC senatorial ticket, he reportedly returned to the NDE.

The lawyer maintained that appointments to the office of Director-General of a federal agency are statutory and must follow due legal process, stressing that once a resignation is accepted, the appointment ceases to exist.

He argued that such positions cannot be reclaimed without a fresh appointment by the appropriate authority.

Azizi therefore urged the Presidency to clarify whether Agara was officially reappointed, asking whether a formal letter of reappointment exists and, if so, why it has not been made public.

He insisted that if no such appointment was made, the government should explain the legal basis upon which Agara is currently occupying the office of Director-General of the NDE.
