U.S. President Donald Trump has said he would be willing to meet Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, as diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran continue.

Speaking during a podcast interview, Trump said he would “probably” meet Khamenei, adding that the Iranian leader is involved in ongoing negotiations between the two countries. He also expressed optimism about the direction of the talks, suggesting that communication between both sides had improved.

The U.S. president further claimed that Iran had agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons, describing the development as a positive step in efforts to ease tensions and reach a broader agreement.

Trump’s comments mark a notable shift from some of his earlier remarks about Iran’s leadership. In recent months, he had publicly criticized Khamenei and questioned his suitability for the role following his emergence as Iran’s supreme leader.

The possibility of a face-to-face meeting comes amid heightened diplomatic activity and efforts to resolve disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security issues. While no formal meeting has been announced, Trump’s remarks have fueled speculation about a potential high-level engagement between the two countries.

Relations between the United States and Iran have remained strained for years, but recent negotiations have raised hopes of a breakthrough that could reduce tensions and pave the way for a new agreement between the longtime rivals.
