Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has expressed sorrow over the recent bandit attacks on Dangulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area, describing the incident as another stark reminder of the security challenges confronting communities across the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tambuwal condemned the killings, destruction of property and displacement of residents resulting from the attack, stressing that the continued targeting of innocent citizens is unacceptable.

He said he was deeply saddened by the violence and noted that repeated attacks on vulnerable communities pose a serious threat to peace and security in the region.

The senator extended his condolences to families who lost loved ones during the assault and wished those injured a speedy recovery. He also sympathised with residents forced to flee their homes as a result of the attacks.

Tambuwal prayed for the repose of the victims and asked for strength and comfort for their grieving families. He also called for the safe return of individuals reportedly abducted during the incident.

Expressing concern over the recurring attacks in parts of Sokoto State, the former governor urged security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and improve protection for communities along the Sokoto-Zamfara axis.

According to him, citizens deserve to live and carry out their daily activities without fear of violence or intimidation. He therefore advocated sustained and coordinated security operations to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the region.

Tambuwal further appealed to residents to remain united and continue supporting legitimate efforts aimed at addressing insecurity and promoting lasting peace.

He reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives designed to strengthen security and safeguard lives and property across Sokoto State and the country.

The attack occurred on June 1 when heavily armed bandits reportedly invaded Dangulbi community, killing at least 17 people, including visitors who had travelled to the area for Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. Several shops were looted during the raid, while many residents fled into nearby forests for safety.

Reports also indicated that another attack occurred less than 48 hours later, with additional casualties recorded in the same community.

The incidents have renewed calls from political leaders, community stakeholders and residents for stronger security measures to protect communities vulnerable to bandit attacks.
