A 27-year-old man, Aliyu Salisu, has been pulled out alive from the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in the Lifecamp area of Abuja after being trapped for nearly 10 hours.

Salisu, a citizen of Niger Republic, was rescued in the early hours of Sunday following the collapse, which occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 2.

Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that emergency response began promptly after a distress call was received.

According to her, the Divisional Police Officer of Lifecamp led a coordinated rescue operation alongside personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FCT Development Control, Zeberced Construction Company, and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

“At about 4 a.m. on August 3, the rescue teams successfully extricated one Aliyu Salisu. He was immediately taken to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu for treatment and is currently responding well,” Adeh stated.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, who visited the site to oversee the rescue efforts, praised the swift and collaborative response of the agencies involved, as well as volunteers who assisted in the operation.

He urged residents to remain alert and report any emergency or suspicious activity, assuring that the command’s control lines 0803 200 3913 and 0806 158 193 are operational 24/7.

As of press time, authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the building collapse.
