Operatives of the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects and foiled a kidnapping plot targeting a Chinese national along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway.
The suspects, identified as 41-year-old Chinedu Onwuemena and 37-year-old Jimoh Ojo, were arrested on Monday at about 5:30pm following credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by Police Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the DPO immediately mobilised operatives, including the surveillance team, to the suspected location, where the suspects were intercepted and arrested, preventing the planned abduction.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo conspired to kidnap a Chinese national and demand a ransom of ₦50 million. It was also discovered that Onwuemena, who worked as an interpreter and driver within the company, allegedly used his position to aid the operation.
Further findings indicated that the suspects were not acting alone but had an accomplice who is currently on the run. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover the full extent of the criminal network behind the plot.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the operatives of the Obalende Division for their swift and professional response, noting that their action prevented a serious kidnapping incident.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and ensuring the safety of residents and businesses across Ogun State.
