ONDO POLICE DISMISS RUMOURS OF CURFEW IN AKURE
By Aishat Momoh. O.

The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating within Akure metropolis alleging the imposition of a traditional curfew, describing the claim as false and misleading.
The command stated that no curfew had been declared in Akure and insisted that there was no security situation warranting panic or apprehension among residents.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the police, the rumour was deliberately being spread to create fear, confusion and unnecessary tension within the state.
“The command states categorically that no such curfew exists and there is no security development warranting panic or apprehension among residents,” the statement read.
Residents were advised to disregard the information and continue their lawful activities without fear while relying only on verified and credible sources for updates on security matters.
The command also warned individuals and groups involved in spreading misinformation and fake news to desist, noting that such actions threaten public peace and security.
It added that anyone found culpable would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police clarification followed reports that the Palace of the Deji of Akure Land had earlier issued a similar denial, rejecting claims of a curfew allegedly scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
Although Ondo State, like several parts of Southwest Nigeria, has experienced security challenges in recent months, including incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery and cult-related violence, the police assured residents of their continued commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
The command reiterated its resolve to maintain peace and public safety while urging members of the public to remain calm and vigilant.
