The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false and malicious a report claiming that one of the schoolchildren abducted during a recent attack on schools in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, had died in captivity.

The Command described the report as entirely unfounded and the product of misinformation being circulated by individuals seeking to cause panic and confusion.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.

According to the statement, no security agency involved in the ongoing rescue operations has confirmed any death among the abducted victims.

“The Oyo State Police Command has observed with grave concern the circulation of a malicious and entirely unfounded report alleging that one of the schoolchildren abducted during the recent incident at Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, has died while in captivity,” the statement read.

The Command stressed that the publication was fabricated and designed to generate fear, mislead the public, and undermine ongoing security operations.

It further warned that the use of emotional narratives and unverified claims was a deliberate attempt to manipulate public sentiment and disrupt rescue efforts.

The police said ongoing operations to secure the release of the abducted children were being conducted with professionalism, caution, and confidentiality, noting that the spread of false information could endanger lives and obstruct investigations.

“The Command wishes to assure members of the public that concerted efforts by security agencies remain ongoing and that all operational activities concerning the incident are being pursued with utmost professionalism, diligence, and confidentiality,” the statement added.

The Command also cautioned bloggers, social media users, and online platforms against circulating unverified security-related information, warning that such actions could incite fear and public disorder.

It urged media practitioners to verify all security reports through official channels before publication and avoid becoming agents of misinformation.

DSP Ayanlade advised members of the public to disregard the report in its entirety and rely only on official statements from the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised security agencies.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and assured that it would continue to provide verified updates as developments unfold in the rescue operation.
