The Nigeria Police Force in Kano State has recovered four stolen vehicles and arrested four suspects in connection with separate car theft cases in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, noting that the arrests followed intelligence-led operations carried out by the police.
Kiyawa said the operation was conducted in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Commissioner of Police in Kano, Ibrahim Bakori.
According to him, operatives of the Anti-Car Theft Unit intercepted a dark blue Hyundai Elantra at the Naibawa Flyover in Kano on March 7.
He explained that the vehicle, which had earlier been reported stolen in Abuja, was being driven by Ibrahim Muhd, 29, from Minna, Niger State, alongside Ahmed Sani, 32, of Abuja.
“The suspects were arrested and have confessed to the crime,” Kiyawa said.
He further disclosed that on March 9, operatives arrested another suspect, Abdulkarim Mamman, 30, of Malali Quarters, Kaduna, in possession of a Honda Civic along the Kwanar Dawaki axis of the Kano-Zaria Expressway.
Police investigations revealed that Mamman confessed to stealing the vehicle from Karkasara Quarters in Kano.
Kiyawa also said Yusuf Ali, 28, of Kaduna, was arrested in connection with a silver Toyota Corolla stolen from Dutse, Jigawa State.
In addition, a white Nissan Sunny stolen from a parking lot in the Kano metropolis was recovered during the operation.
The police spokesperson said the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the process.
He urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information to help prevent crime and enhance security in the state.
