ADC QUESTIONS TINUBU’S AUTHORITY, DEMANDS CLARITY OVER BCDA APPOINTMENT DISPUTE

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concern over what it described as an “appointment fiasco” in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that recent developments raise questions about the exercise of executive authority.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party called on the National Assembly to ascertain whether the President remains fully in control of the constitutional powers of his office.
The ADC’s reaction follows reports that a senior official of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), who was reportedly removed by presidential directive, has continued to occupy the office and hold official meetings.
According to the party, if the reports are accurate, the situation extends beyond a disputed appointment and points to a deeper challenge within the Presidency.
The ADC questioned who was truly exercising the constitutional powers to appoint and remove public officers, arguing that conflicting actions over government appointments could undermine confidence in the Presidency.
The party also cited the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing it as another example of what it called administrative irregularities within the Federal Government.
According to the ADC, the combined incidents suggest that official presidential directives are increasingly being challenged or ignored, creating uncertainty over executive decisions.
The party further argued that the administration’s repeated policy reversals—including the suspension of the cybersecurity levy and the withdrawal of the expatriate employment levy after public criticism—have contributed to perceptions of inconsistency in governance.
It warned that such developments could weaken public confidence, create uncertainty within the civil service and discourage investor confidence.
The ADC called for greater transparency, urging the Federal Government to clarify who authorises appointments, whether the reported BCDA directive had been reversed, and the circumstances surrounding the alleged operation of the PFIPC.
The party maintained that the issues raised go beyond partisan politics and touch on the integrity of executive authority and the effective functioning of government.
