The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing Nigeria’s electricity supply deficit through energy diversification aimed at expanding access to reliable power across the country.
Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, made the disclosure after a meeting with stakeholders in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry, stating that the Tinubu administration remains determined to tackle the nation’s longstanding power challenges.
According to the minister, the government is pursuing policies that will transform electricity from a basic social service into a catalyst for economic growth and national development.
Tegbe said the administration’s approach to energy diversification places particular emphasis on rural electrification, describing it as a strategy for creating opportunities, boosting enterprise and improving livelihoods rather than simply extending electricity infrastructure.
He noted that while indicators such as power generation capacity, transmission networks and household connections remain important, the true measure of success lies in the economic and social benefits electricity delivers to citizens.
The minister assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would continue to explore every available solution to bridge the country’s electricity supply gap.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between government agencies and the private sector to accelerate progress in expanding electricity access nationwide.
