LABOUR PARTY CHIEFTAIN SEEKS PROTECTION OVER ALLEGED DEATH THREATS

A factional chairman of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, Alexander Ombugu, has raised concerns over alleged threats to his life and appealed to security agencies to provide protection and investigate the matter.
Speaking with journalists in Lafia on Saturday, Ombugu claimed that the threats may be linked to his stance on issues surrounding the party’s recently concluded primary elections in the state.
Although he declined to name those he suspects are behind the alleged intimidation, he said such information would be made available to security agencies to avoid jeopardising ongoing or future investigations.

The Labour Party chieftain urged security operatives to act swiftly by providing adequate protection and conducting a thorough probe into the alleged threats.
“The whole issue is because I am standing by the truth, and some people within and outside the party are not happy about it,” he said.
Ombugu recounted that his wife recently returned home visibly distressed after hearing rumours that he could soon be attacked.
“She came back crying after hearing reports that plans to attack me had already been circulated. I tried to calm her, but she remained deeply worried because of the information she received,” he stated.
He maintained that he had committed no wrongdoing since entering active politics and had always conducted himself in accordance with the laws guiding both the Labour Party and Nigeria.
“I have not offended anyone. In carrying out my responsibilities, I have always followed due process and respected the party’s constitution and the laws of the country,” he added.
Ombugu therefore called on security agencies to ensure his safety and thoroughly investigate the source of the alleged threats.
The party leader recently appealed for reconciliation among Labour Party stakeholders in Nasarawa State, urging all factions to put aside their differences in the interest of the party’s future.
He warned that unresolved internal disputes could weaken the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Claiming recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the state chairman of the party, Ombugu said he remained committed to uniting members and resolving outstanding issues before political activities for the next election cycle gather momentum.
“As chairman of the party, I am willing to engage with any leader, stakeholder or group to ensure that all lingering issues are resolved before preparations for the 2027 elections fully begin,” he said.
