POLICE IDENTIFY FEMALE STUDENT FOUND DEAD ALONG LOKOJA-ABUJA HIGHWAY AS FINAL-YEAR FEDERAL UNIVERSITY LOKOJA STUDENT
Agency Report

The Kogi State Police Command has identified the female student whose body was discovered along the Lokoja–Abuja Highway as Sarah Idoko, a final-year student of the Federal University Lokoja.
Sarah’s body was reportedly found on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja after she was allegedly abandoned by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that a vehicle briefly stopped near the location at about 8:00 p.m. before speeding off. Passers-by later discovered the body by the roadside and alerted security operatives.
Initial reports had suggested that the deceased was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, after an identity card recovered at the scene indicated she was enrolled in the Higher National Diploma programme of the Department of Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 academic session.
However, police authorities later clarified that Sarah was a student of the Federal University Lokoja.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Kankarofi, said investigations had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and bring those responsible to justice.
“The command is working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and track down those responsible,” the police commissioner stated.
He assured residents that the findings of the investigation would be made public at the appropriate time and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased.
Reacting to the incident, the Association of Nigeria Female Students, Kogi State Chapter, condemned the killing, describing it as cruel, tragic, and unacceptable.
In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Celina James, the association expressed deep concern over the incident and called on security agencies to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation.
The group also urged relevant authorities to strengthen security measures around campuses and student communities to prevent future occurrences.
According to the association, the tragic death has renewed concerns over safety along the Felele corridor, a major gateway into Lokoja that has witnessed several security-related incidents in recent years.
