Former Presidential Media Aide, Laolu Akande, has urged Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to engage President Bola Tinubu in a joint effort to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in the state.

Akande made the appeal on Thursday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, while discussing the abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

He said he was not dismissing the efforts of the state government, noting that governors have access to security votes that can be used to address emergencies at the community level.

“I don’t want to sound as if I am underrating what the Oyo State government is doing in this particular instance,” he said.

Akande explained that effective response to such crises requires cooperation between both state and federal authorities.

“There is a security vote that state governors get, and I know how some of them manage those resources to address security challenges in their communities,” he said.

However, he stressed that Nigeria’s current security structure places ultimate control of security operations at the federal level, including the police and military.

“Makinde needs to eat the humble pie and go see President Bola Tinubu. The President was in Lagos until recently, and Makinde is in Ibadan. Why haven’t they met?” he asked.

He further argued that both leaders should present a united front to the public in addressing the crisis, adding that coordination at the highest level was necessary to ensure an effective rescue response.
