POLICE DENY BANDIT INVASION CLAIMS IN LAGOS, ARREST 15 OVER MOB KILLING

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that armed bandits invaded communities in Ibeju-Lekki, Imota, Oke-Afo and other parts of the state, describing the claims as false and aimed at causing panic among residents.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, police said there was no security breach, coordinated attack or invasion of any community or school in Lagos State.

The command, however, revealed that the false alarm contributed to the death of a 24-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Kulaha Ayuba, who was allegedly mistaken for a bandit and attacked by some youths in the community.

According to police, Ayuba was falsely labelled a Fulani bandit, assaulted to death, and his motorcycle reportedly stolen before his body was later discovered in a swamp.

Security operatives subsequently arrested 15 suspects in connection with the incident, with investigations currently ongoing.

The police condemned the spread of unverified information capable of inciting fear, ethnic profiling and mob violence, warning that those responsible for originating or circulating false reports would face prosecution.

The command reassured residents that Lagos remains secure and urged the public to verify information through official channels while continuing their daily activities without fear.
