SERENA WILLIAMS CONFIRMS RETURN TO TENNIS AT QUEEN’S CLUB AFTER FOUR-YEAR ABSENCE
Agency Report

Tennis legend Serena Williams has confirmed her return to competitive tennis after nearly four years away from the sport, with the 23-time Grand Slam champion set to feature in women’s doubles at the Queen’s Club Championships in London later this month.
The 44-year-old has not competed since her third-round exit at the 2022 US Open but announced her comeback on Monday with a social media post reading “Good news travels fast,” alongside a video of her back on court in an all-white outfit.
Williams’ return had been widely speculated since December when she re-entered the sport’s anti-doping testing pool — a requirement for any player seeking to return to professional competition. At the time, she publicly denied plans for a comeback, writing: “Omg y’all, I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”
However, she has now been handed a wildcard entry into the women’s doubles event at Queen’s Club, reportedly partnering young Canadian talent Victoria Mboko.
“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter,” Williams said, adding that grass courts have produced some of the most meaningful moments of her career.
The women’s event at Queen’s begins on June 8, marking a major moment for the tournament and women’s tennis.
Tournament director Laura Robson hailed the return of the American icon, describing her as “one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen” and welcoming her comeback to the historic venue.
Williams last played professional tennis in 2022, when she hinted she was “evolving” away from the sport rather than formally retiring. She remains one of the most decorated athletes in tennis history, with 23 Grand Slam singles titles — second only to Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24.
